TRAVEL JOURNAL
Favorites from our founder, Laurie Erickson:
Food
Paris; Fontaine de Mars; this restaurant was recommended
to me by a friend of a friend, you know the deal. I visit it at
least once every trip to Paris and sometimes twice in the same
trip. Try the Pate de Foie Gras, you'll be glad you did. Service
is terrific and extremely helpful in wine selection. 129, rue
Saint-Dominique, 75007 PARIS. Telephone: 01-47-05-46-44, Fax 01-47-05-11-13.
Inns
Gordes; Mas de la Baume; again, a friend of a friend
recommendation. Beautiful inn owned by husband and wife Mr. and
Mrs. Camus, located in the village of Gordes, argued to be one
of the most beautiful places to visit in all of Provence. Hospitality
is fabulous. Be sure to pick up some wine and cheese in the village
to take back to the Inn and enjoy by the pool under the shade
of the olive trees. 84220 Gordes Village, Gordes, FRANCE. Telephone:
04-90-72-02-96, Fax: 04-90-72-06-89.
Destonge, Another wonderful Inn in the heart of
Provence. Highly recommend. The pool is lovely and the hotelier
is a wonderful hostess who welcomes children. Hameau des Riperts
84-220, Roussillon, FRANCE. Telephone: 04-90-05-63-13, Fax: 04-90-05-66-04.
Le Clos des Cigales. Hoteliers; Brigitte and Philippe
LHERBEIL. This one is in the heart of the forest at Roussillon.
The small apartments are nicely appointed surrounding the pool.
Very clean and extremely hospitable. I found this to be a great
place to take kids. Route de Goult, 84220 ROUSSILLON, Telephone:
04-90-05-73-72.
Shopping
Paris; Le Bon Marche; One of the most beautiful
department stores in Paris, often overlooked by the more well
known Galleries Lafayette and Printemps. Don't miss this one,
terrific everything! Accessories, Clothing, Home, Linens, Gifts,
Writing Instruments, Stationery and Toy department. If you're
traveling with kids, be sure to visit the arts and crafts department,
you won't come out empty handed and they won't be bored! Walk
across the street to their Gastronomique Store, every food imaginable
is there, if for not to taste something you must see it for it's
beautiful and expansive presentation.
Sights
Abbey de Senanque; located near Gordes, in Provence,
this is one of the most peaceful "tourist" places I've visited
in France. You can visit the Abbey and take a self-guided tour.
If you're lucky you may either see or hear the Monks sing. I love
to visit just to experience the serenity of the place. The road
to the Abbey is a steep, one way in many parts, yet scenic route
down into a valley richly planted with Lavender.
