Budapest is often being referred to as the "Paris of the East". The majestic and impressive city is one of the most beautiful capitals in the world. It is composed of two main parts: the hills of Buda on the Western part of the Danube, and the flat Pest on the Eastern part of the river. The two parts were not always unified, only since 1873 (also included the unification of Old-Buda). The uniqueness of Budapest is that the Buda side is the greenbelt area of the city, with several places to visit for tourists sights and trips.
There are numerous museums, theaters, cinemas, operas, balley rooms, folklore programs in the city. Every year during the spring, the famous "Spring Festival" is held as one of the largest cultural events in East Central Europe.
In addition to the above, there are also a lot of historical buidlings and monuments in the city. One finds the baroque King's Castle and the Matthias Church in the castle area of Buda, which originates from the Middle Ages. The Heroe's square, Castle of Vajdahunyad and the zoo are located at the City Park. Furthermore, there are several thermal and healing baths in the city. The woods of the Buda side and the Danube-Bend offer excellent opporunities for those who want to explore nature on foot.
