Engineering excellence for Britain's railway

Welcome to Network Rail

Network Rail is an engineering company formed to revitalise Britain's railways. We maintain, improve and upgrade every aspect of the railway infrastructure, including:

  • The track
  • Signalling systems
  • Bridges
  • Viaducts
  • Tunnels
  • Level crossings
  • Stations

We do not run the trains but our main customers are the train and freight operating companies who do. We aim to provide Britain with consistently reliable train routes.

We are a company limited by guarantee. We have no shareholders, instead we are accountable to members, who do not receive dividends or share capital. All of Network Rail's profits are reinvested into the rail infrastructure.
