from Phuket and Chalong pier.
Week No. 22
Lots of things have happened since the last news update.
First of all, I’m glad to inform everybody that the shark fishing
around Phuket has been very productive lately.
Several big sharks have been landed during night as well as daytrips.
Tuna and Queenfish are also present in large numbers,
and a few good-size Tanguigue (King Mackerel) has also been landed.
On recent trips to the Similan Islands,
the motto has been “Quality instead of quantity”.
Big snappers, Sharks and Giant Trevally have dominated,
and David Irving’s 30+ Kg Giant Trevally set a nice finish
for his last night around the islands.
The down side to the saltwater fishing at the moment
is (no surprise) the weather.
Some days are flat calm, whereas even the best
2.hand car salesman couldn’t call other days that!
This was one of the reasons why John Pearce
of “Reel Hooker” decided to visit Ghana in Africa.
Another reason of course, was their run of Blue Marlin.
John brought a custom-made skirted lure
by the name “Ghana Special” with him, and
as the picture shows - it worked very well!

On the freshwater side, we have had some very unusual days.
The most fun, was without a doubt when Andy and Anthony
brought “new technology” to Bungsam Lan Lake!
Now I wouldn’t even start to describe the Ann Summers “Titty Tackle”,
the red sardines, the beach chairs or the two left shoes,
but the remote controlled boats sure is worth mentioning!
Never before has a technique had this much impact
on the amount of rolling fish!
Even if we had been able to read the mind of some of the fish in Bungsam Lan,
I’m sure we couldn’t have published it on this website!!!

The fish in Par Lai Lake have also seen something new to them
over the last few weeks - Aussie flies!
Visiting fly angler Mike O'Brien had lots of action
during his first day in Par Lai, but after 6 lost flies;
we must admit that the fish won that day.
Lesson learned, Mike returned.
Two weeks later he surely came out as the winner.
Tarpon, Pacu and believe it or not, Striped Catfish on fly!
Well honestly, the Catfish wasn’t exactly landed
but managed to snap the tippet after a long fight.
We all saw the fish just out of reach for the net, and Fran (Mikes wife)
also noticed the serious bend in the 8wt rod.
According to Fran, this was the rods best impression of a paper clip!!!
Only two days later, a “bait test” resulted in a 9,5 kg Red Bellied Pacu,
so judging from that, the fish indeed thrives in Par Lai Lake.
Regarding the latest additions to this website,
I’m glad to inform all fly anglers that we now also have included
a vast range of fly reels and rods to our shopping section.
Fly lines are yet to come, but Mike O'Brien’s successful flies remains a secret!
For all the Big Game anglers that would like a to own a similar lure
to the one that now holds the Ghana Record for Blue Marlin,
