Secure Messaging Solution
Wireless Capabilities
Through a collaboration with Research in Motion (RIM), Entrust Secure Messaging capabilities can also be extended to its Java™-enabled BlackBerry® wireless platform. Entrust and RIM have worked closely to provide seamless integration with Entrust's desktop S/MIME software. As a result, BlackBerry's S/MIME Support Package enables government and corporate customers to extend their secure messaging deployments to users of BlackBerry Wireless Handhelds™.
With Entrust Secure Messaging Solution deployed, mobile BlackBerry users can send and receive encrypted and signed e-mails on their handhelds and desktop PCs using the same digital ID, simplifying both usability and administration.
Customers can use the BlackBerry solution to check the status of important issues while on the move and respond quickly to urgent and sensitive e-mails without having to spend valuable time dialing in to the corporate network. Messages are protected at all times in transit and remain encrypted on the handheld after it is viewed.

Get Technical
S/MIME is an e-mail-system independent, Internet standards-based protocol that uses public key cryptography (PKI) to provide writer-to-reader security features such as authentication and confidentiality of message integrity. S/MIME offers an additional layer of security between the sender and recipient of an e-mail message using advanced encryption and digital signatures. S/MIME capabilities can be added to supported Java-based BlackBerry handhelds that are deployed within companies using BlackBerry Enterprise Server™ v3.5 or higher for Microsoft® Exchange.
S/MIME requires the use of digital IDs for encrypting and signing messages. Through the Entrust Secure Messaging Solution, a digital ID is provided to the user's desktop, and the BlackBerry Desktop Manager application synchronizes that same ID from the desktop to the user's handheld. Users can then read or compose secure messages while at their desktop or while working remotely using their handhelds.
Customers with Entrust Secure Messaging Solution deployed can obtain the required S/MIME Support Package from their BlackBerry wireless service provider*. IT departments can install this software upgrade to wirelessly extend their S/MIME e-mail infrastructure while maintaining both sender-to-recipient encryption and a simple and fast interface for users.
