Master of Arts in Teaching - Academic YearIn just one year, an SIT Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) student can complete graduate-level preparation for teaching. SIT's Academic Year MAT programs are as unique as the interests of its students. Participants seeking the next level of professional qualification can explore ways of teaching and learning that are directly related to their own goals, and our internship sites include universities, schools (K–12), and nonprofits. Students can further refine their work by enrolling in additional courses in areas such as teacher training, language teaching management, and peace education. MAT internship sites are found worldwide. ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) generalists choose the location that best serves them: from Bangladesh to Costa Rica, from Morocco to South Africa, and from Hungary to Thailand. Adult ESL (English as a Second Language) programs are found in Boston or New Hampshire. Interns not only explore different regions and cultures, but they learn about the place of English in the lives of language learners and, consequently, their own roles as language teachers. MAT students can be licensed to teach in US public schools. Vermont K–12 public school ESL teaching certification, which has reciprocity with most US states, is available. Read comments from a student about this degree. Read the SIT Course Catalog section on the Academic Year Master of Arts in Teaching Program. Also available are the Course Descriptions (both files are in Adobe Acrobat Format, available for free download). |
