EDITOR NOTES:

The ballyhoo got to me. On a recent Friday night, I dug into my wallet found the $8 for a theater ticket and settled in to watch the film Sideways. My expectations were high. I was excited to have a film focus, not only on a wine country location, but having the consumption of wine be a main premise of the story line. The fact that it got rave reviews helped as well in building my anticipation.
The movie got off to a slow start for me and never recovered. Yes, I agree with the critics that the acting was suburb. Both male characters, Miles and Jack (played by Paul Giamatti and Thomas Haden Church) were very believable as rather self-absorbed, mediocre personalities, but therein lies the rub for me. As many of my friends have heard me say, "I have enough reality in my life, I don't need it in my entertainment."
