Step 1: Sign up for Traffic School

Out of State License Holders:

You should contact the Department of Highway Safety in your state before signing up for traffic school to verify that the withholding of points will be honored in your state.


Step 2: Pay Reduced Fine, Submit Copy of Citation and a Traffic School Affidavit (Form) within 30 Days of Violation Date (by mail or in person)

Reduced Fine: You receive a discount on your ticket when you elect traffic school. For information on Martin County's traffic school reduced fines, click here.

Copy of Citation: You can either submit a copy of the citation or send the original citation in with your payment. For your records (and traffic school), make a copy of your ticket (front and back) or write down the citation number, violation date and county where ticket was received.

Traffic School Affidavit: Sign and send in the Affidavit with your fine. To obtain a copy of the Affidavit, click here.

How to Pay your Fine: If you choose to mail your payment you MUST include your citation number. All checks and money orders must be payable to "Clerk of Court" and made out in U.S. funds drawn on a U.S. exchange bank. Please do not send cash by mail.

By Mail - send in a copy of the citation, reduced fine payment (only checks or money orders, no cash by mail), and traffic school affidavit to:Clerk of the Circuit Court, Traffic Division, P.O. Box 9016, Stuart, FL 34995

In Person - addresses where you can drop off a copy of your citation, fine payment, and traffic school affidavit:

Step 3: Complete the Basic Driver Improvement Course at www.123driving.com(by Internet or home Video). You have 90 days from the date of your Traffic School Affidavit.

Important Information: You can take the course at your own pace on the Internet or with a home Video/ DVD. To sign up, go to www.123driving.com or call 1-888-272-1493. Once completed, your Certificate will be automatically mailed within one business day. If you are in a rush, you can request overnight, 2nd day or email for a nominal fee.

For traffic school, you will need your citation number, violation date and county where the ticket was received.

Step 4: Submit your Traffic School Certificate of Completion (by fax, mail or in person). You have 90 days from the date of your Traffic School Affidavit.

By Fax: Fax the Certificate to 772-288-5990 (call to confirm it was received at 772-288-5576, ask for Traffic Department.)

By Mail: Send Certificate of Completion to:Clerk of the Circuit Court, Traffic Division, P.O. Box 9016, Stuart, FL 34995

Glossary of terms related to Traffic School

BDI stands for Basic Driver Improvement and is the common name used for the 4-hour traffic school course required to avoid points for a ticket in Florida.

Defensive Driving and Driver instruction are other names for this traffic school course.

DATA is term used to desribe the Drug Alcohol Traffic Awareness course required to get a Florida learners permit.

The DATA course is also known as TLSAE (Traffic Law Substance Abuse Education)

About Florida Drivers Association: The Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles has approved Florida Drivers Association traffic school courses in all 67 counties in Florida. Florida Drivers Association is not associated with Clerk of Court offices, Alachua County Clerk of Court, Circuit Court, or DMV and recommends you contact the Alachua County Clerk's office directly if you have questions regarding your ticket.

Florida Drivers Association provides Florida online driver safety education courses and traffic school also known as the Basic Driver Improvement course to the public. Other courses offered include the Florida Learners Permit four-hour DATA (Drug Alcohol Traffic Awareness) also known as Traffic Laws Substance Abuse Education and the Learners Permit DMV Exam (DMV Test) to obtain a Florida Learners Permit License.

In addition Florida Drivers Association offers court ordered traffic school courses and insurance discount courses for drivers over the age of 55.

Florida Drivers Association courses are recognized in many other states such as California. If you do not have a Florida drivers license please check with your DMV (Department of Motor Vehicles) to confirm they will honor our traffic school course.
