Getting to Dublin

Dublin’s international airport has numerous services to Europe and the USA, and other worldwide destinations, in fact Dublin–London has become the world’s busiest route! There are also very favourable discount flights to this destination from selected European destinations. Buses run regularly to the city centre, and taxi services are numerous. It’s advisable to collect your hired car here as traffic southwards into the centre on the M1 is minimal.

Dun Laoghaire port, on the southern side of Dublin Bay, runs to Holyhead in Wales several times a day, and overnight. The city is 3kms away and easily accessible by car, bus or DART rail.

Bus Eireann, the Republic's national bus line, has regular services all over the entire island, departing from Connolly station (Belfast, Derry, Sligo, Wexford and northbound), Heuston (Cork, Galway, Killarney, Limerick, Waterford and westward, and southbound). The Rail network is limited and more expensive.

A ring road, the M50, circles Dublin and several main highways feed off this; The N1 – north (coastal and Belfast), N2 and N3– northwest, N4 - westwards and M4 (Galway/West coast), N7 – southwest, N11 – south ( Bray/Wicklow/Southeast).

Travelling by road in Ireland is deceptive, the roads are windy and often single-laned. Budget generously with your journey time.
