Niagara River
Fishing Charters
A Niagara River fishing
guide service for King Salmon, Steelhead, Smallmouth Bass, Walleye, Lake
& Brown Trout. Also offering Lake Erie, Lake Ontario and the Niagara
Bar fishing charters.
Come enjoy the scenic beauty of the
mighty Niagara River while fishing for the awesome King Salmon, battling
these powerful fighters is an experience that will have lasting memories
and leave you yearning to come back again and again.
The King Salmon come up the Niagara River on their annual
spawning runs in September and October by the thousands! Making it a
great time to catch these 15 -25 pound King's of all Game Fish while
enjoying the bright colors of the changing leaves in the beautiful
Niagara Gorge. We fish by drifting skein, egg sacs and Kwickfish with
light tackle for the fight of a lifetime. A typical day is 6-9 fish
landed with 10-15 hook-ups a day, with some better days, the hard part
is landing these hard battlers! The famed "Devil's Hole" is
where most of the action takes place. It can be a little tricky
navigating the fast currents and rocks, so your first trip you should
use a knowledgeable Salmon fishing guide to ensure your safety and to
show you how to catch these screaming, drag burning Kings. Once you
tangle with one this boys you'll be hooked.
At the end of October as the Salmon run starts to wind down,
the Steelhead, Brown and Lake Trout start to show up to stuff themselves
on salmon eggs and the plentiful bait fish. The Brown Trout and Lake
Trout spawn in November & December and some remain throughout
the river all winter long. While the Steelhead hang around mainly in the
upper stretches of the Niagara River until spring when they spawn.
Having fresh runs of Steelies coming in all winter long makes for super
fishing for these acrobatic leapers that rivals the best trout fishing
anywhere in the World. Limit catches are common most days, but I try to
promote CPR (Catch, Photo & Release) but this is up to you.
These fish are unlike Salmon, they don't die after spawning, they can
live up 10+ years and can make a lot of other anglers happy by catching
them also! The Steelhead & Browns can be picky and a challenge
to catch some days (because water clarity, fishing pressure, wind, etc)
so you should use a good trout fishing guide to have a successful and
enjoyable trip on the Niagara. Dress warm while giving this a try,
you won't be disappointed!
The summer Smallmouth Bass fishing rivals any where for numbers
of these fiesty brown bass. 100+ fish days on 1-2 pound Smallies are
common. These is also excellent Trophy Walleye & Musky fishing at
times though out the River. Depending on the year, there are some good
runs of Silver Bass, its a nice bonus but its a hit or miss.

Lake Ontario &
The Niagara Bar
At the mouth of the Niagara River, where it meets
Lake Ontario, lies the Niagara Bar. The Best Year Round,
Multi-Species Fishery in New York and quite possibly the World!
After their spawning runs the Brown & Lake Trout typically drop back
to this bar, to recuperate and put on the feed bag. This makes for some
of the best Trout Fishing in the world. 15-20 fish (mixed bag of Lakers,
Browns, Steelhead and occasional King or Coho) per day, per person
averaging 8-12 pounds are the norm from November until May or to when
the water warms above their liking (55 degrees). This is a "
hands on" fishing experience of drifting live bait, kwickfish,
hair and tube jigs on light tackle. With some fish surpassing 20
pounds, your arms will be tired at days end and you'll can't wait to
come back for more! At present time I don't offer trolling, but the
spring salmon & trout trolling off the Niagara Bar is the Best on
the Lake, most of the spring Derby entrees come from Wilson to the
Niagara Bar every year.
The Niagara bar is well known for its fantastic
salmon and trout fishing. But the bass fishing, starting in June thru
October is equally as awesome. Catching 50 - 75+ Smallmouths, averaging
1 1/2 - 3 pounds is common, with a good shot at a 4 pounder.
This is another great fishery to bring kids or someone who just
wants to catch lots of fish! Again it's hands on fishing, drifting
livebait or casting jigs.
Then there is one of the best keep secrets that is finally
getting out, the Huge Walleyes that inhabit the Niagara Bar/Niagara
River. They're spread out threw the River from fall to spring,
concentrating on the Bar in late June - August. When I say Huge, I mean
Huge, 10-14 pounds plus are caught regularly. There was an unconfirmed
report of a 17+ Slob Walleye caught by a Canadian angler this past year!
Its not a numbers fishery, its a quality fishery that is very fragile.
We really need to release these monsters to sustain and improve this up
coming fishery so everyone has a change to catch these Trophies! One of
my clients landed a 32 1/2", 13 pound plus Monster this fall while
Salmon fishing.
