Honeycomb Structures
Essentially honeycomb structures are manufactured by using
a lightweight sandwich
panel with other advanced materials which, when combined, can be manufactured into flat or curved panels and possess one of the highest strength to weight ratios of any structural material available on the market today.
Honeycomb structures are manufactured by using a variety of different materials, depending on the intended application and required characteristics, from paper or card, used for low strength and stiffness for low load applications, to high strength and stiffness for high performance applications. The strength of laminated or sandwich panels depends on the size of the panel, facing material used and the number or density of the cells within it.
Honeycomb structures and sandwich panels may be made with a variety of skin or facing materials according to the intended use and required properties, including, thermoplastics or polypropylene, aluminum, wood or steel.
