The Ontario Experience

Yours to Discover - Seven Days of Wonder

Ontario offers tremendous diversity in landscape, things to do, and people, and by far the best way to experience it is from the homes of individual bed and breakfast hosts. Here you will meet individuals who not only are dedicated to ensuring your every comfort and convenience, you will also find each of them passionately devoted to their own corner of this beautiful province, eager to share its highlights and its secrets with their Guests.

In south-central Ontario, a visit to three such treasures will give you an inside look at three completely different regions: the beautiful blending of nature, art and history in the Oak Ridges area surrounding Toadhall Bed and Breakfast; the bustling excitement of Canada's largest city that is home to Toronto Downtown Bed and Breakfast; and the grandeur and beauty that fills the Niagara Region of Schaferhof Bed and Breakfast.

Join us on a seven-day "drive-stay" adventure that will take your breath away!

Toadhall Bed and Breakfast – Embraced by nature

Visit web site at http://www.225Toadhall.ca/ for full details of amenities and attractions.

Night One: Arrive between 2PM and 5PM check in.

-Relax at Toadhall and find out from Gloria about the many multicultural food shops and restaurants of this area.

1st day at Toadhall

After a delicious, organic breakfast, you will be invited to

-Walk the Oak Ridges Trail – hiking, birding, botanizing, mushrooming, cross-country skiing or snowshoeing, according to season.

-Visit the world famous Richters Herbs Nursery in Goodwood for medicinal, culinary and aromatic plants, then refresh with afternoon tea at Mrs. Wideman’s bakery.

-Return to Toadhall for early evening relaxation and tapas and margueritas by the lake or indoors during winter for mulled wine or vodka and Russian zakusky (included in rate).

- Optional trip to Saint Marie Among the Hurons, for a step back in time to the days of the Jesuits and their often tragic relationship with the Native cultures in Canada.

- Gloria will suggest myriad dining-out possibilities for later in the evening.

Night Two

2nd day at Toadhall

Another wonderful breakfast and then it's off to

-Visit the McMichael Art Gallery, home of the Group of Seven, Inuit and other artists (admission included in rate)

-Enjoy lunch at the gallery or the Chartreuse Restaurant in Kleinburg, or if still full from breakfast an afternoon pick me up at Mr. McGregor’s House for scrumptious baking and afternoon tea might be just the ticket.

-Stroll the Village of Kleinburg and browse the many fine shops.

That evening, your host will provide driving directions to your next destination:

Toronto Downtown Bed and Breakfast - in the heart of it all

Night Three

Three days in the pampered luxury of TDBAB (visit our Web site at http://www.tdbab.com/for full details), beginning with a wine and cheese orientation of the area with your hosts. A dinner reservation has been made for your first night, at Cantine Restaurant just a block away, but you are free to make other arrangements if you wish (or just enjoy more wine and cheese!)

1st day in Toronto

Each day begins with a hearty, full-course cooked breakfast.

Pickup from our door for a 2-hr sightseeing coach tour of the city, fully narrated (real person) commentary as you travel from sight to site in air-conditioned comfort.

Tour may return you to our home or to the vibrant Harbourfront area where there is always a festival atmosphere. Optional harbour boat tour (by advance reservation, only).

An afternoon 6 km stroll home will take you through the Entertainment District, the Art Gallery of Ontario, Chinatown, Kensington Market, the University of Toronto campus, Queens Park provincial capital ... or you can hop on the subway and zip back home in a matter of minutes.

Full course Dinner & The Second City, famous comedy theatre that has spawned the likes of Steve Martin, John Candy, Mike Myers, Martin Short, and countless others, this evening included in the price

Night Four

2nd day in Toronto

Self-guided walking tour at your own pace. You are located among several of Toronto's premier tourist attractions, and your hosts will provide a walking map to cover them all, in less than 5 km (3 miles) total walk. Casa Loma, Spadina House, Bata Shoe Museum, Royal Ontario Museum, Gardiner Ceramic Museum and the Bloor / Yorkville shopping experience.

Optional Pub Crawl with raconteur and historian, Bill Genova, introduces you to Toronto's entertainment scene, from the seediest to the trendiest, from the Gay Village to Top of Toronto - four hours you will never forget!

Night Five

3rd day in Toronto

This is your day to catch up, to return to points of interest, to shop, or perhaps to spend an entire day just exploring the Art Gallery of Ontario or any other of this city's great attractions. Perhaps you'd prefer to spend it curled up with a book, or a DVD from the collection of over 250 movies for your pleasure.

Or maybe it's a bike tour of Historic Toronto with David Heller, or a "foodies" walking tour of the culinary delights with Shirley Lum, or a half day with Betty Ann Jordan, art journalist and tour guide, as you discover the cultural side of this city. Let us know in advance and we can arrange any of these experiences.

You're just 90 minutes from the next stop in your Ontario Experience, and your hosts will provide you with driving directions around Lake Ontario to:

Niagara - Schaferhof Bed and Breakfast

Night Six

Arrive at Schaferhof B&B in the evening, to the table set in the privacy of your room with a delightful assortment of hors d'oeuvres, fruit and a bottle of Niagara's finest wines. Red or white, your choice. Or, dip your favourite veggies and bread into the creamy Swiss cheese fondue on your deck as the sun sinks slowly in the west casting a rosy glow over the landscape

Sit under stars so bright you feel that you could almost touch them, or relax by the glow of the fire in our fire pit and listen to the quiet before you retire to your cozy room in our separate guesthouse. Queen size bed or twins, down duvets for cooler nights.

1st day in Niagara

Breakfast at Schaferhof is an "event" as our guests have called it. Fresh fruit, yogurt, cheeses, assorted breads and home preserves of local fruit, followed by your entrée of either traditional
bacon/eggs/ham or others like quiche, or a strata, a frittata, French toast etc.

After Breakfast, your itinerary of course will be to see the famous Niagara Falls themselves. A short 30-minute drive through the countryside will take you there. Take the People mover bus, or drive yourself, there's plenty to see and do other than just the Falls. The Niagara area is famous for its parks especially along the Niagara River, so lunch will be al fresco with Schaferhof supplying the lunch and blanket to spread out in your favourite place!

Your picnic lunch is packed into a roomy basket complete with dishes, cutlery and tablecloth. Lunch may be a hearty sandwich, some cheese and crackers, fruit, and sparkling Champanade, a locally made and delightfully refreshing non-alcoholic wine-like juice. Cookies or home made cake tops off the meal. For those with a lot of energy, your lunch may be packed into a back-pack for you might want to explore some of the famous Bruce Trail.

A quick trip back to Schaferhof for a short rest or shower, and you are ready to go into historic Port Dalhousie to attend the Port Mansion Dinner Theatre in St. Catharines. Your dinner choices are Veal, Seafood, Prime Rib, Duck, or lamb with the accompaniments. Playing until August is the hilarious musical, I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change.

Night Seven

2nd day in Niagara

Breakfast the next day will fortify you to be able to tour some of our wineries, or just relax and enjoy the countryside.

On your way back home (or to your airport point of departure), drive thru "Canada's Most Beautiful Town," Niagara-on-the-Lake. Canada's first capital boasts lines of elegant clapboard houses surrounded by well-kept gardens, all spread along tree-lined streets. The town, much of which dates from the early nineteenth century, is now home to the Shaw Festival.

And perhaps there is time to stop along the Wine Route and sample a one or two of Niagara's finest products. Many of the country's finest restaurants are those in several of Niagara's vineyards. Make sure your hosts at Schaferhof have made lunch reservations for you before you leave!
