The AEP, a collaboration between the U.S. Department of State and the Office of Personnel Management (OPM), was designed to develop a skills-based examination program for candidates interested in becoming Foreign Service Officers. The AEP is an alternative examination to the Foreign Service Written Exam. Eligibility has been limited to candidates with Federal employment, and military service, as well as to Peace Corps volunteers.
A decision to open the AEP is made by the Department based on its hiring needs. The AEP is not open at the present time.
