These aren't the same old, outdated, photocopied, pirated striped bass length and weight chart that can be found at a hundred places online. These charts were developed at StripersOnline.com using lengths and weights of recently caught striped bass - the length and weights were entered into a spread sheet, separated by length and the following charts were developed. The numbers at the bottom of each chart represent the individual striped bass used in that chart - their length was between the two "inch classes" listed at the top of that page - and their weight is represented by the bar on the graph. An average sized striped bass of a specific length would be approximately the same as the middle third of the chart. A skinny striped bass' weight would be approximately the same as the left hand third of the chart. And a fat striped bass' weight would be roughly the same as the right hand third of the chart. As with most data, there are some extremes - the first couple weights and again, the last couple weights, can often be dismissed as extremes or anomalies. The more stripers that were used in that particular inch class, the more accurate the average weights. |
We are continually
gathering more data for the next series of these charts -
if you have any accurately measured and weighed striped bass data to contribute,
please send the information to length_weight@stripersonline.com
- please include the length, weight, and if possible, the girth. Thank
you!

Stripers used in these striped
bass length weight charts were measured using their over all length. To
measure a striped bass properly lay the striper down flat on top of the
tape measure. Do not measure a striper by measuring across the fish, your
measurement will no inaccurate.. Measurements used here were taken as
greatest length, from tip of nose to tip of tail.

The best method to get an accurate weight of a live striped bass is still using a Boga Grip. Better would be a sling to hold the fish horizontally and then hang it from a scale, but that is impractical in the surf fishing environment. It's no longer necessary to kill the largest striped bass to get an accurate weight and photograph - the Boga Grip and digital camera will conserve more stripers than any other two tools we can name :-) |
