Bird watchers will find excellent birding opportunities at Copes Islander Bed and Breakfast. Our rooms afford excellent views of the beach and the ocean which are often teaming with shorebirds andother marine life. A pair of bald eagles can usually be seen perching in the trees behind our home or on the tide marker just off shore from the beach.
Approximately 2000 Trumpeter Swans over-winter in the Comox Valley. This magnificent bird can be spotted in many fields from October until March. Flocks of swans can frequently be seen in the Courtenay River estuary.
Some of the many bird species that can be spotted here include 10 species of gulls and terns, 16 types of diving ducks, nine dabbling ducks and 13 species of raptors. The Visitor Info Centre in Courtenay has a comprehensive Bird Checklist for the area. It can be purchased along with a book of Nature Viewing sites produced by the Comox Valley Naturalist Society.
