Bringing pets to the UK

This site explains what you have to do to bring your pet dog, cat or ferret into (or back into) the UK through the Pet Travel Scheme (or PETS for short) without putting it into quarantine.

This site also tells you about quarantine in the UK for animals that don’t qualify for PETS.

What's new

3 February 2005 -

  • P&O Ferries no longer operate the Cherbourg to Portsmouth route.
  • Netjets Transportes Aereos S.A. have announced new routes from Bern and Sion to London Heathrow and London Gatwick.
  • London Executive Aviation and Gold Air International have announced new routes into London Biggin Hill, in each case, the plane must be booked, not just the ticket. These can be viewed on the routes page.

24 January 2005 - Taiwan became a qualifying country for PETS on 20 January 2005.

18 January 2005 - Savannah and Bengal cats are not eligible to enter the UK under the Pet Travel Scheme. They are listed under the Dangerous Wild Animals Act 1976 and require a licence to enter the UK. They must also undertake 6 months quarantine on arrival.
