Meet Our Staff
Program
Director Brian Long
Brian Long earned his Master of Arts in Teaching
from SIT. Born and raised on the prairies of the US, he caught the travel
bug early and has taught in Thailand, Puerto Rico, Japan, and the US.
Before becoming Director of the SIT TESOL Certificate Program, Brian
taught for 9 years at Kyoto University of Foreign Studies in Kyoto,
Japan. He was one of the trainers who managed and delivered the certificate
courses at the SIT Kyoto site. Now, in addition to managing the Certificate
Program, teaching, and traveling, he most enjoys reading, swimming,
watching videos, hanging out with friends, and eating his wife’s
excellent cooking.
Operations
Manager Margaret Tarmy
Margaret Tarmy holds a BA from Hamilton College,
and came to SIT after several years of coordinating a computer skills
grant for a community action agency. Her interest in language learning
extends back to her early schooling at a bilingual french/english school
in Manhattan. She has traveled, studied, and worked overseas, and for
the last few years she and her family have hosted exchange students
from Russia and Kazakhstan. She lives in Putney, VT and likes to spend
time gardening, kayaking, reading, and just hanging out with her partner
and four kids.
Training
Manager Lois Scott-Conley
Lois Scott-Conley started her teaching career with
certification to teach high school English, Speech and Drama in 1987.
After teaching ESOL in Japan she fell in love with the field and switched
careers. She graduated from SIT with an MAT in ESOL (1993-94) and has
been working for SIT since 1998. She has taught in the US, El Salvador
and Japan and has done teacher training in those countries and Lithuania.
Lois has been the Training Manager for the SIT TESOL Certificate course
since 2001 when the position was created. She lives in Brattleboro in
an 1850's home with her husband and young daughter. When they aren't
doing home improvement projects they like to get outside and enjoy the
seasons in Vermont.
Note for participants who come to the U.S. on an F-1 or J-1 visa: SIT is authorized
under federal law to enroll nonimmigrant students.
