The World Leaders Statement in Support of the ICPD was officially presented to the leadership of the United Nations on Wednesday, October 13th at UN headquarters in New York, one day prior to the UN General Assembly review of the ICPD. The Statement was reported on widely in the international media and promoted through full-page advertisements placed in newspapers around the world. Click to view the advertisement. Businessman and philanthropist Ted Turner presented the World Leaders Statementsigned by leaders from government, business, religion, science and non-governmental organizationsto UN Deputy Secretary-General. More than 200 people also took part in the ceremony, including the UN representatives of approximately 50 nations. Speakers included: Thoraya Obaid, UNFPA Executive Director; Kakenya Ntiaye, UNFPA Youth Representative; Adrienne Germain, President, International Women's Health Coalition; Hans van den Broek, Netherlands Special Envoy for the EU Presidency, and Senator Tim Wirth, President of the United Nations Foundation.
