What is the International Diploma in Language Teaching Management?

Why should I take this course? What will the course
do for me?
The course is designed to help professionals in language education
who want more practical skills in administration or management. It is
particularly helpful for new managers or for experienced teaching professionals
with increased administrative responsibilities. Participants gain a
foundation in management theory and practice, which they can then apply
directly to their own institutions, as well as a wider understanding
of the workings of language teaching contexts in general.

Who teaches the course?
The diploma course is taught by faculty from SIT's graduate degree programs
in language teaching and international and intercultural management.
Additional experts and faculty from other institutions are brought in
to contribute to the training. Every trainer is experienced in the fields
of management and/or language teaching, and continues to contribute
to the field through publications or training.
Trainers work with participants during the face-to-face portion of
the program, and continue to provide input and facilitate group discussions
during the distance portion of the course.

How are participants assessed?
Each of the eight modules is assessed in a way that suits the subject.
For example, the financial management module might require participants
to make up a costed action plan. A human resource module might conclude
with a case study. Participants must pass each of the eight modules
in order to receive the diploma.

What are the entrance requirements?
Online access is a must. In addition, candidates should have the
following:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent
- 3 years full time language teaching experience
- English level sufficient to cope with academic study
We also hope that candidates will be working in a capacity that allows
them to practice what they are studying, but this is negotiable.

How is the course structured?
In stage one, participants undertake two weeks of face-to-face training,
building a relationship with the tutors and materials. Stage two is
a six-month distance learning program. Students receive more sophisticated
resources and apply them to their individual situations. Tutors and
participants give each other feedback, and submit a series of integrated
real-life projects based on their own experience. This culminates in
an online simulation bringing together all of the work done on the course.

this course?
We are more than happy to provide training wherever it is needed.

How much does the course cost?
Tuition for the 7 month course is $3500, payable at the beginning
of the course. If necessary payment installments can be arranged. The
deposit due on application is $350. This amount is deducted from the
tuition fee.
