The capital of Jamaica is Kingston which is a booming metropolitan area with a population of over 800,000. For those interested in true Jamaican culture and history, Kingston is a must visit.

Kingston is located in the southeast part of the island. Nestled between the Blue Mountains and Spanish Town, Kingston dates back to 1692. Kingston is comprised of a number of communities. Vacationers should be warned of certain areas for crime is abundant in the western and southern parts of the city along with the downtown area. Near the airport lies the fishing village, Port Royal. Port Royal was a hangout for the notorious pirates of the Caribbean before an earthquake pummeled the village into the sea during the summer of 1692. Plans are underway to restore the area.
