Silver Fox Charters is located in breathtaking Homer, Alaska and has been serving the fishing public since 1974. We are one of the largest halibut charter companies in Homer. Our halibut season starts in March and continues until October. A typical halibut charter is 10 hours long; plus or minus 2 hours; depending on the fishing, tides and weather. Travel time to the fishing grounds can be from 40 minutes to 2.5 hours. You will be fishing in a water depth between 20 to 500 feet. The daily catch limit per person is 2 halibut per day. They average 20 to 30 lbs. each, but many weigh in at over 100 lbs. The halibut fillet out at about 50 to 60% of their hanging weight. Flash freezing, vacuum packing, and shipping is available locally at Coal Point . We supply all the fishing tackle, bait, and fish filleting/cleaning.
King Salmon (Chinook) fishing is best May until mid June. They range from 10 lbs. to as much as 60 lbs. Immature king salmon, commonly called "feeder kings” can be caught any time of the year. Silver Salmon (Coho) are available mid July thru September, with their peak run the first 3 weeks of August. They range from 8 to 20 lbs. Salmon fishing is conducted in water depths from a few feet near shore to the middle of Cook Inlet . We troll with downriggers, or we fish weights and herring on the drift (mooching). It just depends on the species, weather, tides and time of year. Red, Pink and Chum Salmon are also caught in this manner.
