From Malang by road: There's ar. incredible road (but very bad) of variegated landscapes running N.E. from Malang for 75 km, passing by pine forests, ricefields, waterfalls, rickety old bridges, mountain passes, orchid farms, riverbeds. bemos and minibuses: The biggest bemo station in Malang is on JI. Pasar Besar in front of Pasar Besar. Sawahan Station, on the corner of JI. Sulawesi and JI. Julius Usmat, is the big Colt minibus station. Some fares: Jember Rp600 (189 km); Kediri, Rp350 (100 km(; Blitar, Rp300 (78 km); Banyuwangi, Rpl200 (400 km). Take a minibus to Surabaya, Rp350, on a road with volcanic mountains rearing up on both sides. The minibus to Blitar (Panataran temple complex) is 80 km, a refreshing road through the mountains. buses: Stasium Bis Pattimura, JI. Pattimura 54, is about Rp100 from the city by becak. Some fares: Bali, Rp1850, leaving at 5 pm and 7 pm; Kediri, Rp375, 3 times in the morning starting at 6:25 am; Banyuwangi, Rp970, 9 times a day; Surabaya, Rp250, starting at 6:30, every 10 minutes; Blitar, Rp250, every 10 minutes; Semarang, Rp1300, starting at 4:40 am; Yogya, Rp1270, 6 times a ds y; Solo, Rpl 100 (same bus as the Yogya bus); Probolinggo (Climb Mt. Bromo?), Rp300. night buses: For Bali, Agung Express, JI. Gereja, close to the bus station, leaves 7 pm, arrives in Denpasar 5 am. Nusa Lembongan is situated 12 miles south east of Bali. It is one hour traveling time by boat from Benoa Harbour. This pear shaped island is around 4km long and 2km wide. It is surrounded by a beautiful fringing reef, which hosts a myriad of marine life, The waters are renowned for their abundance of life and great surf breaks. The reef has been declared a marine park by the Indonesian authorities. Not only does the reef support its own Eco-system, but it supports most of the villagers on the island as well. The local people farm seaweed. This seaweed is cultivated, harvested then exported all over the world for use in cosmetics, food stabilizers and medicines. Other sources of income include traditional wooden boat building, farming peanuts, sweet potato, and fishing.Village life is very slow and enchanting. Very few cars and motorbikes are seen on the roads. The people are steeped in tradition, and one could imagine Bali being like this island, thirty years ago.Although the island is small there are many things to do. Fishing, diving, surfing, mangrove exploring, discovering natural fresh water springs, underground cave house exploring, cycling around the island. A visit to the bat caves on a nearby island, or a picnic at dream beach. Try catching mud cabs in the mangrove area at the back of the island. There is something for every one at Nusa Lembongan.
