Some
of the TOP Hotels in Bali
Bali's
most famous and crowded resort is Kuta beach, a six-kilometre
sweep of golden sand, with plenty of accommodation,
shops and nightlife. Nearby Sanur is much quieter, but
most backpackers prefer the beaches of peaceful east-coast
Candi Dasa and traveller-oriented Lovina on the north
coast. The island's other major destination is the cultural
centre of Ubud , a still charming but undeniably commercialized
overgrown village, where traditional dances are staged
every night of the week and the streets are full of
arts-and-crafts galleries.

Bokin:
A nice view from here covering the whole southeast portion
of Torajaland. Few tourists. Buntao: 15 km. Old graves
and tau tau. A Beautiful approach from Paniki. Bemos
go here, but infrequently.Kete' Kesu: 4 km. A characteristic
Torajan village where many artifacts are for sale; outstanding
wooden and bamboo carvings. See the kepala desa's house.
100 m behind the village are scattered skulls and bones
over old rotted hardwood coffins with dragon motifs
on them Lemo: 12 km. More dramatic than Londa and one
of the easiest to get to. On the way to Lemo on the
left-hand side there's a church to visit on Sunday morning;
exuberant singing. Join in or just sit outside and listen.
The best tau tau are to be seen at Lemo; 60 statues
and 30 funerary niches carved into solid rock. Standing
like spectators on balconies outside deep pockets where
the dead are buried, the wide-eyed doubles lean on the
railings. These realistic puppets are protected by thick
paint. Climb the crag at the side until almost level
with the staring bright eyes, their bodies clothed in
vivid checks and bandana colors. Their colthing, worn
by sun, wind and rain, is changed periodically. Some
have traveling sacks for their trip to the Land of Souls.
Londa: 6 km. Old cave graves, a balcony of effigies,
heaps of wooden coffins, bones. Little girls with smoking
torches or flashlights will lead you through the catacombs.
Pala' tokke: 9 km. A long scenic walk. Two 800 year
old hanging graves here and some skulls lying about
in an almost Ethiopian setting. Kids playing flutes.
The villagers will take you up the cliffs, 20 minutes
walk. No charge; could give the guide a ballpoint pen
or something.randan batu :11 km graves and a knifesmith
lives here. Sangga Langi : 3 km. house are built against
a cliff, once served as a fortress. Sullukarang : a
verry old secluded village abauot 3 km past kete kesu.
this amazingly tranquil island kampung has menhirs,
graves and statues. the statues are seated in a shack
overlooking the village hard to get a good photo. not
often visited.Tembamba: 17 km. A mountain pass village
3 km beyond Buntao with old graves and an awesome panorama.Tilanga:
9 km. A cool fresh clear blue water natural swimming
hole. Free entry. On Sundays they sell fruit. Take a
bemo to the turnoff, then walk 2 km from the highway
down the road to Lemo. By the time you get to Tilanga
you're ready for it.
