I am the author of "Grandes Horizontales: The Lives and Legends of Four 19th-century Courtesans" published by Bloomsbury, and the co-author, with Martin Dudley, of "The Parish Survival Guide" and "Churchwardens: A Survival Guide", both published by SPCK. I have also translated some of the poetry of Arseny Tarkovsky, and am currently working on a new biography of Catherine the Great.
