 Royal
Sovereign |
Sleeping accommodations consist of four queen rooms with
private bath (Folkstone can sleep three). The bedrooms are air-conditioned with
cable TV and all are non-smoking. All four
bedrooms of this intimate weekend getaway are beautifully appointed with
Victorian furnishings and period pieces. |

The Captain James Preston
House is a perfect fit for Newport given the town's long sea faring
and sailing history. The house is named for James Preston, a Captain in the
British Royal Navy. Each of the beautifully appointed rooms are named for the
ships he sailed on so many years ago, the Royal Sovereign, Swan, Colcester, and
Folkstone. There is ample off-street parking and a quiet sitting area in the
enclosed gardens at the rear of the house. Guests can relax comfortably in our
cozy sitting room. |

The
Legend of the Pineapple |
|
The pineapple is the traditional symbol of hospitality.
When colonial sea captains returned from their tropical voyages, they hung
pineapples on their front doors as a sign of welcome and hospitality.
 This tradition has
continued and is still very prevalent in the coastal cities and towns from New
England to Florida. Watch for pineapples! They may be carved into doorways or
on fence posts. Many times they are used on signs to give a feeling of
friendship and welcome. As
you enter the Captain Preston House on the front porch, you
will see two gilded pineapples true to both Captain Preston's seafaring
history and our sense of hospitality to you, our guests. |
