or Air
Bald Head Island is located 2 miles off the North
Carolina coast at the mouth of the Cape Fear River. Guest are transported
to BHI via a passenger ferry that departs at the Indigo Plantation
Ferry Terminal located in Southport, NC. . Please note the Indigo
Plantation Ferry Terminal address is 6099 Indigo Plantation Dr.,Southport,
NC 28461 and is accessed via West 9th Street in Southport.
By Land
From Virginia and other states north of
NC - Take I-95 South to I-40 East (towards Wilmington,
NC) then take exit #414 for Castle Hayne and Brunswick County Beaches.
Follow the signs directing you towards Hwy 17 South. Take Hwy 17
South then turn left on Hwy 87 South. Hwy 87 South will end a Hwy
133, merge right on Hwy 133 and travel to the 1st stoplight in Southport,
NC. Turn Left on Hwy 211 also known as Howe. St. and travel .5 miles
to W. 9th St. Turn right on W. 9th St. and travel to the entrance
of Indigo Plantation located at the end of W. 9th St. Travel Straight
on Indigo Plantation Drive to the parking area located adjacent
to the Marina and Ferry Terminal. The ferry terminal address is
6099 Indigo Plantation Dr., Southport, NC 28461
From South Carolina and states south of
NC - Take I-95 North to Hwy 74 East (towards Wilmington,
NC) then exit on Hwy 17 South and turn left on Hwy 87 South. Hwy
87 South will end a Hwy 133, merge right on Hwy 133 and travel to
the 1st stoplight in Southport, NC. Turn Left on Hwy 211 also known
as Howe. St. and travel .5 miles to W. 9th St. Turn right on W.
9th St. and travel to the entrance of Indigo Plantation located
at the end of W. 9th St. Travel Straight on Indigo Plantation Drive
to the parking area located adjacent to the Marina and Ferry Terminal.

NC 28461. Note - If you are traveling from Myrtle Beach, Charleston
or Hilton Head Island, SC then travel on Hwy 17 North to Hwy 211
South. Turn Right on Hwy 211 South and travel straight to Southport,
NC.
From Charlotte, NC and states west of
NC - take Hwy 74 East (towards Wilmington, NC) and exit
on Hwy 17 South then turn left on Hwy 87 South. Hwy 87 South will
end a Hwy 133, merge right on Hwy 133 and travel to the 1st stoplight
in Southport, NC. Turn Left on Hwy 211 also known as Howe St. and
travel .5 miles to W. 9th St.. Turn right on W. 9th St. and travel
to the entrance of Indigo Plantation located at the end of W. 9th

Wilmington International Airport
- This is the closest major airport to Bald Head Island, NC and
is located in Wilmington, NC (30 minutes from Southport, NC). Flights
from US Airways® and Delta® arrive and depart daily. Please

from the airport to the Indigo Plantation Ferry Terminal, where
you will be transported to Bald Head Island via a passenger ferry.
Myrtle Beach Airport - This
is the second closest airport and is located in Myrtle Beach, SC
(1.25 hours from Southport, NC). Please use our 5-star guest services
to make arrangements for your transportation from the airport to
the Indigo Plantation Ferry Terminal, where you will be transported
to Bald Head Island via a passenger ferry.
Raleigh/Durham International Airport -
This is the third closest airport and is located in Raleigh, NC
(2.5 hours from Southport, NC). Please use our 5-star guest services
to make arrangements for your transportation from the airport to
the Indigo Plantation Ferry Terminal, where you will be transported
to Bald Head Island via a passenger ferry.
Brunswick County Airport -
This is a public airport located in Southport, NC. It has a hard
surfaced runway of 4000 ft. Tie downs, hangers, fuel, maintenance,
PCL lighting and car rentals are available. Call (910) 457-6483
or the standard Unicom frequency of 122.8. There are no precision
approaches available for IMC.
By Sea
The entrance to the Bald Head Island Marina
is located near buoy #13 at the mouth of the Cape Fear River. The
Bald Head Island Marina has 112 slips and accommodates vessels up
to 65 feet. Water, electric and cable hookups are provided on most
boat slips. Gas and diesel fuel, rest rooms, laundry facilities,
pump-out stations and showers are available. Please use our 5-star
guest services to make docking reservations for your vessel.
Important Notes and Numbers
Plan to arrive at the Ferry Terminal 30 minutes ahead of your departing
time. Advanced reservations are required. Please use our 5-star

The BHI passenger ferry departs the mainland
for BHI on the hour and departs BHI for the mainland on the 1/2
hour.

Please note that there are two ferry terminals
in Southport, NC. One is the Ft. Fisher / Southport ferry
and the other is the Bald Head Island ferry. Be sure not to follow
the signs to the Ft. Fisher / Southport ferry.
