JOHNSON CITY - A top official at East Tennessee State University has been asked by Tennessee Gov. Phil Bredesen to serve on a special task force that will study the state's current healthcare safety net.
Dr. Ron Franks, ETSU dean of Medicine and vice president for Health Affairs, will serve on the Governor's Task Force on the Healthcare Safety Net that will re-examine the current structure and make recommendations on improvements. The creation of this task force comes just two weeks after Bredesen announced plans to remove approximately 323,000 men and women from TennCare rolls.
Franks will join more than a dozen leaders across the Volunteer State, including health commissioners, lawmakers, urban and rural health experts, county mayors and representatives from county health departments, community clinics and safety net hospitals.
