Some of the TOP Hotels in Bali

Bali's most famous and crowded resort is Kuta beach, a six-kilometre sweep of golden sand, with plenty of accommodation, shops and nightlife. Nearby Sanur is much quieter, but most backpackers prefer the beaches of peaceful east-coast Candi Dasa and traveller-oriented Lovina on the north coast. The island's other major destination is the cultural centre of Ubud , a still charming but undeniably commercialized overgrown village, where traditional dances are staged every night of the week and the streets are full of arts-and-crafts galleries.

stay: Wisma Delima, JI. Jaksa 5, Rp600 for dorm beds or Rp500 with a Y.H.A. card. This hostel has the most traffic of any. You could meet anyone here. Have mail sent here and buy charter flight tickets to Singapore and Pelni boat tickets to Medan, etc. Though quite central (one km south of Gambir Station), it has bad lighting and it's quite stuffy and cramped in most of the rooms. Pure money trip: there are so many travelers that they hardly smile anymore; you order a drink and they reach out for the money first. Heed the sign: 'Don't go outside in your underpants.' Semi-European breakfast, Rp400, and good 3-course meals, Rp500. Everyone gets sick from the food at JI. Jaksa 40, a horrible place, so filthy, needs painting, hot; Rp600 for a dorm bed. You'd be lucky to get into Fru Brouwer's place (but only has two rooms) at JI. Jaksa 27, Rp1500 double. Worth paying the little extra; a very nice lady, and you're taken right into the family. Do your socializing down at no. 5. If she's full, try Bali international between JI. Jaksa and Sarinah Dept. Store; special student price to share a room, Rp1000. Another excellent place nearby Jalan Jaksa is Kebon Sirih 23 with new rooms for Rp2000 double including breakfast; a pleasant lady, a bargain place right behind a Pelni booking office. Hotel Hai Kok, 300 m from Kota Station, is Rp750 per person, double Rp1500, but very dirty, stinks. Street outside is frequently flooded with water. Wisma Esther, JI. Mataram Raya 113; Rp600, 2-3 people to a room, good music, clean. Get an op/et from Senen Market (Rp30), Wisma Esther is about 4 km from Hotel Borobudur. An organized losmen with many foreigners, free tea all day, and free breakfast (banana and cake). The proprietors speak good English, and Dutch fluently. There are intricate instructions on the wall to get you anywhere in the city, and if you go out and turn to the-right there are several Padang restaurants (little expensive at Rp1000 per good meal) or if you turn to the left and walk down one third km to just before the overpass on JI. Matraman Raya there are outdoor warungs at night serving much cheaper food. There's a laundry service at Wisma Esther, and coffee and tea are served, but no meals.

Nusa Lembongan is situated 12 miles south east of Bali. It is one hour traveling time by boat from Benoa Harbour. This pear shaped island is around 4km long and 2km wide. It is surrounded by a beautiful fringing reef, which hosts a myriad of marine life, The waters are renowned for their abundance of life and great surf breaks. The reef has been declared a marine park by the Indonesian authorities. Not only does the reef support its own Eco-system, but it supports most of the villagers on the island as well. The local people farm seaweed. This seaweed is cultivated, harvested then exported all over the world for use in cosmetics, food stabilizers and medicines. Other sources of income include traditional wooden boat building, farming peanuts, sweet potato, and fishing.Village life is very slow and enchanting. Very few cars and motorbikes are seen on the roads. The people are steeped in tradition, and one could imagine Bali being like this island, thirty years ago.Although the island is small there are many things to do. Fishing, diving, surfing, mangrove exploring, discovering natural fresh water springs, underground cave house exploring, cycling around the island. A visit to the bat caves on a nearby island, or a picnic at dream beach. Try catching mud cabs in the mangrove area at the back of the island. There is something for every one at Nusa Lembongan.
