Some of the TOP Hotels in Bali

Bali's most famous and crowded resort is Kuta beach, a six-kilometre sweep of golden sand, with plenty of accommodation, shops and nightlife. Nearby Sanur is much quieter, but most backpackers prefer the beaches of peaceful east-coast Candi Dasa and traveller-oriented Lovina on the north coast. The island's other major destination is the cultural centre of Ubud , a still charming but undeniably commercialized overgrown village, where traditional dances are staged every night of the week and the streets are full of arts-and-crafts galleries.

dance and music: Maluku has a rich traditional music, and many popular Indonesian folk songs originated here. The special type of game/an played here is called totebuang. Bamboo flutes are played unceasingly by schoolkids. In the Gaba-Gaba Dance (or the Bamboo Gila Dance), 4 bamboo poles placed crosswise are clicked together. Dancers step between and around the bamboo poles without ever getting their feet caught while the tempo gradually speeds up. Also performed is the slow and hypnotic Handkerchief Dance. eat: The main diet is a meal extracted from the heart of the sago palm, a plant which grows wild. Sago bread comes in the form of a giant waffle. A unique native dish of this region is papeta, made by first pulverizing and straining the pulp from the trunk of the sago palm. This 'flour' is boiled up to form a viscous jelly-like tasteless mass to be eaten hot. Papeta has the consistency of, and even looks like, wallpaper paste. If you don't swallow it straightaway you think you're drowning. Thankfully, papeta is often served with fish curry soup which somewhat improves the taste. There are many varieties of bananas of matchless flavor throughout these islands including one tiny species which grows to maturity in only 7 months (pisang tuju bulon), up to the gargantuan (1/2 m long) pisang raja which Amboinese women are not permitted to eat because it is thought that it will wreck their marriage.
