The Adventures In Fishing Production Team recently filmed the Stuart Sailfish Club's Light Tackle Tournament in Stuart, Florida. This is a prestigious tournament and the 2nd leg of the Treasure Coast Championship. This episode will feature excellent sailfishing and tournament fishing at it's finest.
The production team also traveled to the Florida Keys and filmed an episode at Bud N Mary's Marina in Islamorada. The show will feature Capt. Nick Stanczyck catching sailfish, king mackerel and yellowtail snapper. Capt. Nick was filmed for another episode of Adventures In Fishing fishing with his father, Capt. Richard Stanczyk when he was 10 years old. Capt. Nick is now 20 years old, has his own charter boat and attends the University of Miami.
Another filming was recently completed in Marathon, Florida with Capt. Jack Carlson of Two Conchs Charters where giant African Pompano were landed along with a variety of other fish. Capt. Jack fished with his son, Austin, who is 11 years old. Austin ended up catching the biggest fish, a 36 pound African Pompano. There is excellent fishing in Marathon and Capt. Jack is one of the best Captains in the Florida Keys.
Scheduled Filmings
Adventures In Fishing will be producing an episode fishing out of Palm Beach with Capt. Ed Suker of Final Pursuit Charters. Capt. Ed will be live bait fishing for sailfish. The sailfishing is excellent from December until March off of Palm Beach. When sailfishing, an angler always has a chance to catch king mackerel, wahoo and mahi-mahi as well.
Another filming is scheduled in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico on board, El Budster, with Jim Dillon. Jim told me the fishing is fantastic in Cabo San Lucas and he will be fishing for Marlin, Sailfish, Wahoo, and Dorado. Jim caught a world record Dorado there in the past. Who knows maybe we'll catch a world record during the filming!
The 8th Annual Riverhead Moose Fluke Tournament
On July 24, 2004, The Riverhead Moose Lodge hosted it's 8th Annual Moose
Fluke Tournament which benefits The Suffolk County Child Advocacy Center
which assists abused children.
There were 47 boats with 173 anglers (31 females & 39 children)
participating in the tournament. According to Tournament Chairman, Capt.
Ray Kelly, "We had more boats, more anglers, more female anglers and more
junior anglers and that was great. We even had an 87 year old gentlemen
fishing with us. We raised more money than last year.
A $2,000.00 check will be given to The Suffolk County Child Advocacy."
Herb Helgans, 87 years, of Holtsville, NY. fished with his son, Jack
Helgans. Herb was the oldest angler to participate in the tournament
since it's start 8 years ago. Another senior, Ed Cartowski, age 81, of
Riverhead, NY fished in the tournament as well. The tournament promotes
getting children involved in fishing. Capt. Kelly likes to see
grandfathers taking their grandchildren fishing as was the case with Jack
Wherry, 70 years, of Jamesport, NY who took his grandchildren aboard his
40 foot Mainship, Tiger Cat. Bill Simms, age 67, who captain's a 50
Ocean, Shelcindra, took his two grandchildren also. Fishing is a great way for grandparents to
spend time with their granchildren. There were many other
father/mother/son/daughter teams fishing in the tournament.
More and more women are getting involved in fishing in this tournament.
The Tournament Chairman, Capt. Ray Kelly, really tries to encourage women
and girls to fish in the tournament. He said he would like to see another
woman win the tournament as did Pat Severino of Miller Place in 2001. Her
name is on the Wall Placque at the Riverhead Moose Lodge. This year,
Susie Cinelli of Sound Beach, almost won the tournament finishing 2nd.
During the tournament over two hundred fluke were caught and released.
The tournament promotes Catch and Release. Some of the fluke were even
tagged and released for research.
The results in the Junior Division were 3rd Place- Lucas Trottere with a 3
lb. Fluke, 2nd Place- Alex Galasso, Jr. with a 3.1 lb. Fluke, 1st Place-
Gary Breslin, Jr. with a 3.3 lb. Fluke.
The results in the Adult Division were 3rd Place- Wayne Ehlers with a 4.6
lb. Fluke, 2nd Place- Susie Cinelli with a 5.0 lb. Fluke, 1st Place- Jim
McEntee with a 6 lb. Fluke.
Jim' Fluke won him $1,125.00, a Rod & Reel Combo donated by West Marine,
a Silver Fluke Pendant donated by The Jewelry Clinic and a beautiful 1st
Place Trophy. Not bad for catching a 6 lb. Fluke!
The tournament was filmed for an upcoming episode of the television show,
Adventures In Fishing. The shows airs on Channel 20 and can be viewed on
