Algorithm
The sum of all factors that determine how a web page will rank in the
search results pages of a search engine.
Alt tag
A tag that provides alternative text for the visually impaired.
Alt text
The text that appears when you put your mouse over an image or a picture.
Altavista
A popular search engine, indexing more than 140 million pages. Until 1998,
this search engine provided the search facility for Yahoo. Altavista
indexes all of the words in a web page. You are asked to submit just the
main page of your site. The Altavista spider will then explore your site
and index a representative sample of the pages.
Applet
A small program, often written in Java, which usually runs in a web browser,
as part of a web page.
ArchitextSpider
The name of the Excite
search engine spider.
Ask Jeeves
A meta search engine which can be asked questions in English. Its URL
is http://www.askjeeves.com.
Autoresponder
An autoresponder is a feature that allows an email account to automatically
send an instand response to the sender. For example, you may want to have
an autoresponder at sales@yourdomain.com that immediately sends a response
message to the sender stating that the order was received and willl be
processed shortly. You may set up an unlimited number of autoresponders
on your NumaTek
hosting account.
