The Flag
of State Nevada
On
a cobalt blue background in the upper left quarter is a five-pointed
silver star between two sprays of sagebrush crossed to form a half
wreath; across the top of the wreath is a golden scroll with the words,
in black letters, "Battle Born." The name "Nevada"
is beneath the star in gold letters. The current Nevada State Flag
design was adopted March 26, 1929, and revised in 1991.

If you don't make it to Las Vegas, you can get a feel for the nonstop,
neon-lit gambler's lifestyle by stopping in RENO , on I-80, very near
the California border. "The biggest little city in the world," as
it likes to call itself, is a somewhat little sister of the glitz and glamour
of Vegas, with miles of gleaming slot machines and poker tables, surrounded
by tacky wedding chapels and quickie divorce courts. While the town itself
may not be much to look at, its setting at the foot of the snowcapped Sierra
Nevada , with the Truckee River winding through the center is superb.
Reno is so much more than gambling. Host to the Reno Rodeo; Air Races and
Balloon Races; and many cultural events, there is something for everyone
in Reno. If you are in town for business (Reno boasts a 500,000 square foot
Convention Center) or a family vacation, within minutes you can enjoy
fishing and white water rafting the Truckee River; a variety of water sports
at Lake Tahoe; hiking, horseback riding and mountain biking the Tahoe Rim
Trail; downhill and nordic skiing and snowboarding Mt. Rose or Northstar.
See the eye searing expanse of Pyramid Lake. Always a favorite is a
visit to the historic mining city of Virginia City. Golf at any of
the eleven courses in Reno or choose a course overlooking beautiful Lake
Tahoe. Entertainment, museums, shopping, and fine dining abound.
The casinos are concentrated in the downtown area, along
Virginia Street either side of the railroad tracks.
