Look at this cute little thing that we just got. Her (I think she's a she) name is Chevelle and she's just so sweet and nice. A little bit shy but this will change quickly. Please come to see her, and us.

Our beloved blind beagle Sally (was Faith) died at 8:45 tonight. Her mother, Gisela, who adopted her from us, and who has taken tender, loving care of her for years now is heartbroken. As are we.

We found out something about Sally recently. Her ill health necessitated that x-rays be taken and these x-rays revealed that her body was full of pellets. Now we know what caused her blindness; someone shot her. The cause of death was lung scar tissue caused by heartworm contracted, and left untreated, before she came to SOAR. She was 11 years old and the sweetest little creature that you can imagine.

One of our puppies and two of our cats, Harry and Choo Choo, were adopted yesterday. And last week, Grace (dog) got adopted. Grace had been with us for well over a year so we are very happy that she has now found a good home. Also, our newborn pups (see 5 items below) are growing and we'll get some more pictures of them on Monday for you to see. They're doing fine. And Mom (we named her Annie) is such a wonderful dog and wonderful mother. She's so sweet. You should come and meet her. She is going to bring a lot of joy into some lucky family's home.

Heather Esada, SOAR's manager (left) accepts a $500 dollar donation from the Greenwood Pet Camp's owners, Susan and Russ 'Frosty the Snowman' Colby. Check out Frosty, he's got a corn cob pipe and a button nose. Also pictured are Boo Boo and Girl. Greenwood Pet Camp offered their Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day boarders a traditional dinner (turkey, gravy, rice, green beans, and rolls) if their owners would make a small donation to SOAR. The pet owners took them up on this offer to the tune of $500 and SOAR was presented with the check today. Thank you Greenwood! And we bet the boarders loved their dinners too!

Great news for SOAR. SOAR has received a $5,000 donation from the Karl Young Memorial Fund for the construction of a security fence. Additionally, this fund will match any other funds, up to $5,000, received before June 1, 2005. Karl was a great friend of SOAR's and of animals in life, and now even after life. Please accept this fund's challenge and donate money to us for a new fence.

Please help SOAR earn money by shopping at Food Lion. They will give SOAR a portion of the money you pay for each purchase you make at any Food Lion. You must register with Food Lion and receive one of their MVP cards. You then link your card to SOAR. You will receive two key ring cards and then, whenever you shop at Food Lion just let them swipe your MVP card. It's that simple and SOAR will receive a donation. We would greatly appreciate you doing this.

To apply for an MVP card go to www.foodlion.com and click on MVP Card

To link your card to SOAR go to www.foodlion.com and click on Fundraising

It works and SOAR will benefit. Please consider.

Big happenings at SOAR last night. Six puppies were born. The mother, along with two other friends, just wandered onto SOAR property on Friday. One of them was very pregnant and that was quickly confirmed last night as she delivered six puppies. All puppies and Mom are doing well.

These three dogs are very gentle and friendly. They must be someone's pets. They are shepherd mixes and weigh approximately 50 - 60 pounds. Do you know anyone missing their dogs? We'll keep them for a while and if they go unclaimed we'll make them available for adoption.

Saturday was a good day at SOAR. Lots of animals found new homes. Smokey and two puppies were adopted as were four cats; Princess, Mercedes, Morris, and Mouse. We've already heard from Smokey's new Mom and she's thrilled to death with the way Smokey has fit into their household and early indications are that Smokey will get along just fine with their Doberman, Ilsa. Keep fingers crossed that things will stay good because Smokey is such a fine animal and really deserves a good home.

Fred has cancer. He had a growth removed from his abdomen and the biopsy results indicated a form of skin cancer, melanoma. Fred seems just fine right now and we can only hope that this cancer is slow growing and Fred can spend many more days with us. We'll keep you posted on his condition.

Saturday was great. Paige and Jody came back to visit us and the animals that they love so much and who love them so much in return. Paige and Jody have been SOAR volunteers for a long time. Paige has moved to Calif. so visiting SOAR is a difficult proposition as it is with Jody who is very busy with life in Wilmington. But they were at SOAR on Sat. and they brought two friends, Leigh and Mary. Guys, this ought to make you want to get out and volunteer at SOAR.
