  New Central Fire Station
The New Central Fire Station is located on the former site of the Dominion
supermarket on the corner of Parade Street and Harvey Road. This location
meets the fire suppression response time for the City of St. John's. There
are three levels within the new station: the lowest level is fire
suppression, i.e. fire pumpers and aerial ladders; the second level will
house fire prevention and administration and will also be the home of the
new museum; and the third level is the 911 Center and the executive offices.
The building concept blends traditional vernacular of the buildings in Fort
Townshend and old Downtown St. John's, and also exhibits elements which
depict the modern and highly technical multi-faceted operations of the
Department. Construction started in the Autumn of 2003. Come have an early
visit on September 11th and 12th prior to the official opening of September
17th, 2004. |
