Mystic Seaport

Mystic SeaportWe were surprised when we went to Mystic Seaport, because we didn't realize that it was such a huge tourist attraction. We were looking for an old dock with a boat anchored to it, and we always thought that the Mystic Aquarium was the main attraction in the area because of the TV commercials.

As it turns out the Mystic Seaport has 17 acres of things of shops, featuring colonial crafts, exhibits, demonstrations, and museums. They even dress in colonial costume. This would be a great weekend vacation. Spend one day at the Seaport and the next day at the Aquarium.

If you are into boats and sailing and history, this is the place for you. Be sure to take the cruise down the Mystic River too on the ferry.

We parked in the South Lot, which was right across from the entrance to Mystic Seaport. There was no charge for parking, but get there early. Exhibits are open 9 AM to 5 PM.

Cost for Admittance: $17.00 for adults, $9.00 for children

DRIVING DIRECTIONS:
Exit 90 off of I 95. At the end of the ramp, if you turn north, all the hotels and motels are there. If you turn south at the end of the ramp, follow it till you start seeing areas for parking for the Mystic Seaport. We highly recommend traveling early in the morning.

Mystic Aquarium Mystic Aquarium

This is just a couple of pictures of the entrance to Mystic Aquarium. We didn't go in, but we could tell it would be a really nice and informative place to go. It's called an Institute for Exploration and one visit is not enough. There is too much to see and do. They offer memberships so you can come back again and again.

The most popular attraction there is the Sealion Show, which is held outside in the Marine Theater. They have a Waterfront Cafe if you get hungry, or you can bring your own picnic, and eat in the picnic area.

They have a gift shop with a great selection of books, gifts, videos, clothing and souvenirs. If you have to leave they will stamp your hand so you can return. There is plenty of parking available.

While we were there, they were featuring an interactive game called, Shark Predator Prey, a special exhibit on the Titanic, and an Immersion Project, where you travel into strange worlds in the deep, deep sea.

We didn't stop to notice how much it cost to get in, we thought it would be on their brochure. But it's a nice place to spend a hot summer day.

Getaway Specials from Marriott.Mystic Lodging
While we were in the area, we noticed several hotels and motels, if you turn north after you exit 90 off of I-95. Such as the Mystic Hilton, Comfort Inn, Days Inn, Residence Inn, and a Best Western.
