JUNEAU - GCI today announced the introduction of Xtreme cable modem services to Juneau customers. The new option offers increased download and upload speeds and more included features for homes and businesses. The new Internet plans focus on how people use their broadband services, with packages designed around customers' lifestyles and business needs.
"With Alaska leading the nation in broadband access, our users have become increasingly more sophisticated in how they use the Internet," said Terry Nidiffer, GCI Internet general manager. "Our new Xtreme cable modem packages bundle value-added features that maximize their on-line experience with the fastest Internet access speeds in Alaska."
Xtreme services are offered exclusively to customers who subscribe to either GCI's Ultimate Package or the new Ultimate Broadband Package.
Nidiffer added that the new services target broadband customers who want high-performance Internet access tailored to their specific usage patterns. All packages include a minimum of 1 Mbps download speed, email spam and anti-virus protection, four email accounts and increased disk space.
Xtreme Home Office (2Mbps/384Kbps) for at-home professionals includes static IP addressing, 24-hour live priority technical support and a dial-up account.
Xtreme Gamer (2Mbps/384Kbps) designed for customers who play interactive online games and includes 24-hour live priority phone technical support.
Xtreme Power (3Mbps/384Kbps) and Xtreme Speed (4Mbps/384Kbps) offer the fastest speeds and include static IP addressing, 24-hour live priority technical support and a dial-up account.
Xtreme Plus with speeds of 2Mbps/256Kbps is available for just $10 more per month for customers with the Ultimate Broadband Package.
Xtreme with speeds of 1Mbps/256Kbps is included with the Ultimate Broadband Package.
Xtreme services were introduced in Anchorage, Fairbanks, Kenai/Soldotna and Palmer/Wasilla last fall.
