Data Communications Services
You can count on GCI's leadership in the area of data communications products and services. GCI has a long tradition of being Alaska's leading provider of
high-quality, cost-effective dedicated, packet-based and switched data communications service.
GCI has linked Alaska with the Information Superhighway through our Alaska United Fiber Optic Cable which joins Anchorage, Fairbanks and Juneau with the
Lower 48 and offers business access to the bandwidth they need to compete in today's highly competitive world.
GCI offers three main methods of data communications transport:
Private Line
GCI Private Line service can connect your business locations in point-to-point or multi point configurations using the latest in fiber optic, satellite
and microwave technology. Our extensive statewide network offers a cost-effective means of exchanging critical business data, and through our agreements
with Lower 48 carriers, GCI can act as a single point of contact for your Lower 48 connectivity needs.
For analog applications, GCI offers 32 KBPS. Channels guaranteed to support up to 9.6 KBPS. Data, or 64 KBPS. Channels guaranteed to support up to
19.2 KBPS. data.
For digital applications, GCI offers sub-rate, 56/64 KBPS, Fractional T-1, T-1 (1.544 MBPS.) and n X T-1 service
Frame Relay
Frame Relay is an advanced packet-switched data service that is efficient in handling high-speed, bursty data over widearea networks. With GCI Frame
Relay you can always count on high quality and cost effective data service to numerous points within Alaska and to the Lower 48. GCI offers NNI and UNI
connections to a variety of carrier networks in the Lower 48.
Switched Digital Services (SDS)
GCI offers switched digital services between Alaska and the Lower 48 at speeds up to 56 KBPS. SDS-56 is a high-speed dial-up digital communication
service that allows you to achieve significantly higher speeds than available by dialing over a public network connection.
While SDS requires special lines and equipment, the service is a flexible and affordable alternative to dedicated Private Lines, combining the speed and
reliability of digital communications with the availability of the switched public network and the economy of usage-sensitive billing.
