On the main road to Padang are dozens of good eating places, Chinese as well as nasi padang. Asia Restaurant, next door to the fat man's, has the best sweet and sour fish. The most expensive restaurant (Rp350-1000 per dish) is the Singgalang for Chinese meals such as prawns with bean sauce, Rp650; fish dishes are particularly good. Sinar Pagi, JI. Pulau Samosir, has incomparable Chinese and European food (try the pancakes) at cheaper prices. In Prapat proper on the way to the ferry quay are 4 Chinese restaurants right in a row. The best is the Rose, right next to the Hong Kong, which does a fantastic sweet and sour pork, Rp300, without a stitch of fat on it. The Heart Restaurant prepares a good chicken and vegetables dish for Rp300.
