By Boat from Prapat

Some of the TOP Hotels in Bali

Bali's most famous and crowded resort is Kuta beach, a six-kilometre sweep of golden sand, with plenty of accommodation, shops and nightlife. Nearby Sanur is much quieter, but most backpackers prefer the beaches of peaceful east-coast Candi Dasa and traveller-oriented Lovina on the north coast. The island's other major destination is the cultural centre of Ubud , a still charming but undeniably commercialized overgrown village, where traditional dances are staged every night of the week and the streets are full of arts-and-crafts galleries.

These ferries arrive from Samosir at about 9:30 am and usually leave around 10 or 10:30 am and at 4 pm, but they could go back anytime. Costs Rp200. A ferry leaves for Tuk2 also from the front porch of Guesthouse Gurning at 10 or 10:30 am. On Sat. market day there are many more boats and they charge half price, Rp100. On Sun. chartered tourist boats cost up to Rp5000 for 5 people; try hitching them instead. There are also boats to other villages on Samosir Island (Simanindo and Pangururan), but no one knows for sure when they arrive and depart. Nainggolan: 50 km from Tomok on Samosir Island. Take the ferry to Nainggolan from Prapat any day, Rp200. Accommodation is available in a couple of 200-year old traditional houses. There is also a losmen near the harbor. Market day is Monday.
