Some
of the TOP Hotels in Bali
Bali's
most famous and crowded resort is Kuta beach, a six-kilometre
sweep of golden sand, with plenty of accommodation,
shops and nightlife. Nearby Sanur is much quieter, but
most backpackers prefer the beaches of peaceful east-coast
Candi Dasa and traveller-oriented Lovina on the north
coast. The island's other major destination is the cultural
centre of Ubud , a still charming but undeniably commercialized
overgrown village, where traditional dances are staged
every night of the week and the streets are full of
arts-and-crafts galleries.

eat: A clots cheap and expensive hotels, from the Mad
(Rp250) on the waterfront right up to the Tuk2 Hotel
(Rp3500) on top of the hill. The best rooms at Matahari's
have balconies and are the same price as the others.
The Tuk2 Hotel is quite comfortable: private bath, hot
water, electricity, garden out front; like any American
highway motel. Bernards, Rp100-250 for rooms looking
over one of the nicest beaches on the island; get a
good hearty slap on the back from Pepy every morning.
Carolina has 6 individual mock-Batak houses on the slope
of a small hill overlooking the whole lake; Rp600-800
per house, Rp1000 for the Skyline Room. There's a good
restaurant with a limited menu and a private swimming
cove with a diving board. others: Rudy's is right around
the bend from Tuk2, 6 minutes walk on the coastal path
to Ambarita (turn in at the 'Munchie's' sign); beds
cost Rp150-250. As tranquil as you can get. Music in
the afternoons when the re-charged battery arrives back
from Prapat. Mama Rudy is nice, so is her cooking and
her 7 kids. From Tuk2 it's a 1'h km walk to Tuk Lumban
Manururig where you'll find Dominic's; excellent food.
Also Mr Romlan's (see Selasta) restaurant and waterside
Batak house; Rp250 for cozy little rooms. At Tuk2 Pandan,
about a 30 minute walk towards Ambarita from Tuk2, there
are at least 5 'accommodations' hanging over the lake
with spectacular surroundings and convenient ferry connections
to Prapat. Rusly's is the best of them, Rp250. Nelson
Vugo's is Rp250 also. Manru's is always crowded. Lastra
Johnny's has number one granola, Rp150. The village
of Little Tuk2 is 15 minutes walk from Tuk2 towards
Tomok, all by its own in a small cove. Marpuang's and
Tony's offer accommodation for Rp250. Paulus Batak house
is available for travelers. Several restaurants. At
Christa's you can even go in the back and cook.
