There's a small clump of hotels in the middle of town only 5 minutes walk from the museum or 10 minutes walk from the bus station. Hotel Garuda, JI. Merdeka 33, is Rp600 single or Rp1200 double. Quite central and clean, it's the best for what Siantar offers in this price range; gracious Chinese people run it. Hotel Bali, JI. Merdeka 52, Rp1000 double, is near Hotel Garuda. Hotel Dagang, right across the street from Hotel Bali, is the same price. On the other end of town nearer the bus station is Hotel Delima, JI. Thamrin 131, Rp500 per person. Hotel Segar, JI. Merdeka 234, Rp1000; noisy, unclean sheets, and their rooftop overlooks a pasar neighborhood. The Siantar Hotel is the only high standard accommodation, a bargain for what you pay (Rp3750). Has a small but select library and a nice garden. There are many Chinese shops selling fresh baked goods along the main street of town. Good mie places as well.
