Special Educational Needs
And The Law
SEN Legal specialises in special education laws and children with special
needs. We provide a service throughout England and Wales offering advice,
help and representation on all aspects of education law, including special
needs education (assessment, statementing, placement, Special Educational
Needs and Disability Tribunal (SENDIST)), admissions, special education
inclusion / exclusions, school refusals, bullying and home tuition.
Special Education Laws
We provide assistance with special
education inclusion, help for parents of children
with special needs, and help for former pupils. Many former pupils
with special needs feel that they were failed by schools or local authorities.
We can help with school refusals and exclusion from schools. Whether
your goal is inclusion in mainstream schools or inclusion in special
education schools, we offer an experienced and independent source of
information.
Inclusion
Decisions to exclude are subject to rights of appeal. The number of
exclusions has risen over the years. For some, it can be a blessed release
with the opportunity to find more appropriate provision. On the other
hand there is often a desire to put the record straight.
Early Childhood
We can help with all aspects of special
education law, from early childhood special education to inclusion
in mainstream schools or special needs schools (assessment, statementing,
placement, Special Educational Needs and Disability Tribunal (SENDIST)).
Former Pupils
Former pupils whose schools failed to cater for their special needs
now have an opportunity to seek redress following the recent landmark
ruling by the House of Lords on Dyslexia.
Special education lessons
Every child with special educational needs deserves the best possible
education. Children with special needs can achieve so much with the
right start in life. For many children with special needs, mainstream
schooling will be appropriate and the system will cater for them. Others
may require special education lessons with additional specialist help.
For some, a specialist independent school will provide the best environment,
but sadly not every LEA provides inclusion in special education schools
without a battle. Other parents will battle for their child to be included
in mainstream schools. Some parents will require legal help for a special
educational needs and disability tribunal (SENDIST). Conditions that
may require special attention include attention deficit disorder, ADHD,
autism, asperger syndrome, aspergers, cerebral palsy, global development
delay, downs syndrome, dyslexia, dyspraxia, emotional and behavioural
difficulties, communication disorder, speech / language disorders, tourettes
syndrome, etc.
