Salzburg Hotels

The hills are alive, with the sound of music! If this catchphrase sounds familiar, chances are you've seen The Sound of Music, the Julie Andrews musical extravaganza that put the city of Salzburg, Austria on the map. Salzburg is known not only as the hometown of the famous Von Trapp family and the filming location for the movie based on their lives, but also for being the birthplace of Mozart, home to some of the world's best chocolate, and having awe-inspiring baroque buildings still in impeccable conditions after centuries of use.

The city is a hotspot for tourists, making it an especially difficult place to get a Salzburg hotel. During the summer, book hotels in Salzburg up to months in advance, and while the winter doesn't quite bear the same crowds as the warmer months, its best to plan ahead for accommodations.

Salzburg is home to some delicious food. The city is packed with charming cafes with outdoor patios, so you can eat outside and enjoy the surrounding sights. A local specialty is the delicious Mozartkugeln, which are hazelnuts coated in marzipan, chocolate and nougat. Another guilty pleasure is the Salzburger Nockerl, a concoction of whipped egg whites, sugar and raspberries baked into three crispy peaks, representing the hills of Salzburg. more Salzburg Guide...
