It
is a fine grained metamorphic rock that splits into thin
smooth surface layers. Slate stone or simply slate is easy
to clean, requires very little maintenance and also
provides high slip resistance & is long lasting. It is
a natural choice over porcelain tile or ceramics. All
these factors make it ideal stone for number of
applications including interiors, exteriors, roofing,
flooring, hearths, fire places, kitchen, wall claddings,
landscaping, driveways, pools etc. The options are limited
only by your imagination. Tiles can be split and cut to
size with only the natural cleft surface or manufacturers
will add value by calibrating the material to ensure a
consistent thickness throughout the piece. Minerals
present are quartz, silicate, chlorite, some graphite,
titanium oxide & iron oxides.
