I would like to share an enjoyable experience with a great
organization. On June 19, 2004 I was a mate at the Wish-A-Fish event in
Portsmouth, Virginia. I fished aboard Korona with my friend John. My
wife helped on shore while I was on the water.
We fished and were lucky enough to have a great catch of fish. The
wind was a bit of a factor but moments after we stopped, it calmed down
and the fish came on hard. We caught croaker, spot and pigfish among the
Hampton Bar fleet and near the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel area.
The Wish-A Fish Foundation is a very worthwhile organization. It's
mission is to provide a little relief for a family from the daily stress
of having a child with “special needs” such as a live-threatening illness, mental or physical disability, by
taking the entire family out for a day of fun and fishing on the water.
The Great Bridge Fisherman's Association assists in the event by
to helping with funding, providing boats, soliciting donations, tackle
and bait from sponsors and conducting the barbeque afterward.
The Children's Hospital of the
King's Daughters works with WAF to bring together boaters and families for the
event.
The smiles of a family enjoying a day of
fishing is something to behold. If you are a boater or just like to
fish, you may want to look into attending a Wish-A Fish event.
