Some
of the TOP Hotels in Bali
Bali's
most famous and crowded resort is Kuta beach, a six-kilometre
sweep of golden sand, with plenty of accommodation,
shops and nightlife. Nearby Sanur is much quieter, but
most backpackers prefer the beaches of peaceful east-coast
Candi Dasa and traveller-oriented Lovina on the north
coast. The island's other major destination is the cultural
centre of Ubud , a still charming but undeniably commercialized
overgrown village, where traditional dances are staged
every night of the week and the streets are full of
arts-and-crafts galleries.

A very strong Muslim town on the N. E. coast. For Rp300
a night there's a stinking rip-off losmen here, the
Sudimampir. Not much to entertain yourself with in this
town, but some of the finest blankets are produced in
the vicinity. In the evenings a few warungs open up
around the bus station. Sleep the night on a waning
bench; the owner and his wife live under the table.
from Labuhan Lombok: To Ampenan by bus, Rp300. If you're
headed for Sumbawa Baser on Sumbawa Island, it's better
to stay overnight on your last night in Cakranegara
rather than in Labuhan Lombok. Then catch a bemo real
early from Cakranegara so you can reach the 9 am boat
from Labuhan Lombok over to Alas on Sumbawa, taking
3 hours. From Alas take a bemo, Rp400, 3 hours, to Sumbawa
Besar. for Mt. Rinjani: Take a bemo from Labuhan Lombok
a few km, then walk the rest of the way to Sapit. From
Sapit, it's a one day hike to reach the top. Sapit is
the best place from which to go around the mountain,
where you can join up with the road that goes across
the island below the mountain.
