Wildlife Refuge
Town of Middletown, RI

Middletown is a really nice town, and if you keep driving up the road past Middletown's Sachuest beach, you will have a delightful surprise. There is a Wildlife Refuge at the end of the road. Lots of paths for walking and scenic views from watchtowers.

We hiked along the path by the shoreline, which they say is about 6 miles around. They have cut down a lot of the thorny shrubbery that has pretty much taken over the whole area, so we were able to spot a herd of deer.

Fishing is allowed along the shoreline, and they have informational signs on the paths, of what types of fish you can expect to catch.

We were trying to get a picture of the lighthouse at sunset, not realizing that the lighthouse sits on an island offshore. We could barely see it, you would need a telephoto on your lens to take photographs of the lighthouse, and the deer.

If you are a bird watcher, the music of songbirds will fill your ears in the morning. It's a great place to take pictures of birds, and we saw some rabbits, so don't forget your binoculars too.
