What We Do
 
East Tennessee State University offers a full service operation for students enrolled in courses and programs on the campus of ETSU at Kingsport.  There are a variety of courses and degree programs available for students who find our facility a more convenient alternative to the Johnson City campus.  In addition to offering more than 100 courses each semester, courses that lead to the following degree programs certificate are available:

• Master of Business Administration
• Master of Arts in Professional Communication
• Bachelor of Business Administration degree in general management
• RN to BSN Transition Program
• Bachelor of General Studies

These programs target our adult student population by offering courses during the late afternoons, evenings, and on weekends.  Convenient and plentiful parking, friendly service, and state of the art technology make ETSU at Kingsport a popular choice for both the recent high school graduate and returning adult student.

Please free free to contact us at any time.  We have staff to provide services to all of our students, including admissions, program advising, registration, textbooks, and fee payment.  ETSU at Kingsport also provides meeting facilities with teleconferencing capabilities for groups, organizations, and students from the region.

The center also features a Tennessee Small Business Development Center office through the ETSU College of Business. The TSBDC serves local owners or potential owners of small businesses by providing professional advice and assistance related to such issues as expansion planning, financial management and analysis, marketing and advertising, and accounting and recordkeeping.  Call Bob Graham at (423) 392-8019 more information.



The Educational Talent Search program was created by the Higher Education Act of 1965 and is funded by the U.S. Department of Education.  Educational Talent Search is a pre-college intervention program.  The purpose of Educational Talent Search is to provide assistance to students in grades 6-12 to ensure the successful completion of a high school diploma and enrollment in college or vocational/technical school.  Advisors visit the target schools in Carter County, Johnson County, Sullivan County and Hawkins County to provide opportunities for career exploration, college preparation, study skills and personal development.

Educational Talent Search can also provide services to those wanting to finish high school or return to college (up to age 27) by assisting with the completion of a GED program and enrollment in a postsecondary institution.

The following criteria serve as a guidelines for determining a student's eligibility for the program:

• Family income after taxes falls within the Federal Income Guidelines
• Neither parent (or legal guardian) obtained a four-year college degree
• Interesting in attending a college or vocational training center after high school
• Academic potential
• 11 to 27 years of age

Where We Are

ETSU at Kingsport is located approximately 30 miles from ETSU's Johnson City's campus. The greater Kingsport area has been served by ETSU for more than 45 years through its largest off-campus center. We are close to Eastman Chemical Company, Tennessee's second largest employer with over 10,000 employees. (Click here for a map.)

Partnership between ETSU and Northeast State Technical Community College
 
East Tennessee State University and Northeast State Technical Community College have entered into a partnership agreement that will afford Kingsport area students with enhanced higher education opportunities and increased student services. Proclaimed by Northeast State President Bill Locke and ETSU President Paul Stanton as a statewide model for cooperation between a community college and university, the agreement will result in Northeast State offering freshman and sophomore level courses on the campus of ETSU at Kingsport.
 
As a result of this partnership, students will have a greater choice of class times and a more diverse choice of course offerings. Students will also benefit from increased computer laboratory time, recreational and other student services that may not now be available. This partnership will enable ETSU to concentrate more on junior and senior level and graduate course offerings at the Kingsport campus. Other positive outcomes include reduced student travel time and related expenses. Finally, students should find the transition from Northeast State to ETSU easier.

Presidents Locke and Stanton commend the leadership of Kingsport, including the Community Advisory Council on the ETSU campus for their input and assistance in the development of this partnership. Continued development and expansion of this relationship are expected.


Take Classes on the Weekends!
 

ETSU at Kingsport offers courses at times and in formats more convenient for the working adult student.
 
• Weekend courses are offered on Friday nights and Saturday mornings and afternoons during each semester. If your schedule is too busy during the week, you can take history, philosophy, English, math, and other courses on the weekends. This program will continue to expand based on student need.

One-credit hour seminar classes are available on the graduate and undergraduate levels. Classes in philosophy, English and other subject areas are offered at various times throughout the semester. Classes may be offered on Saturday or on two Friday afternoons.

Travel classes are also available through ETSU at Kingsport.  Classes have been taught in Washington, DC., New York City, Asheville, North Carolina, and other locales on subjects such as music, the Holocaust, and the Gilded Age.
