How to Donate to the Reconstruction of Iraqi Cultural Heritage

Information on How to Donate to the Reconstruction of Iraqi Cultural Heritage

Many people have asked the State Department how they can contribute to the restoration of looted and damaged Iraqi cultural heritage. The State Department has set up a special account for this purpose. People wishing to contribute to it can mail checks, made out to "United States Department of State" to the following address:

Iraqi Cultural Heritage Restoration
U.S. Department of State, SA-44
301 4th Street, SW, Room 334
Washington, DC 20547

Funds from private donations are expected to be used to support restoration of cultural heritage in Iraq. This includes conservation, and protection of cultural materials (artifacts, art, books, manuscripts, archival materials, etc.); capacity building for cultural heritage management; and restoration of cultural sites, monuments and museums, libraries and other repositories of cultural materials in Iraq.

To insure consistency with State Department regulations, donors of over $500 should fill out the appropriate donor letter:

Individual Donor Letter
Corporate Donor Letter
