Disability Plates and Disabled Veteran's License Plates

How can a person obtain a disabled parking permit?

An original Application for Disabled Parking Identification (form 861) signed by an Alaska licensed physician must be submitted to the Division in order for an individual to qualify for a disability parking permit.  The permit may be submitted in person, or by mail.   See address at the bottom of this page.  These permits may be issued for temporary or permanent disabilities.  The applicant's disability must fall within the specific parameters of the definition of mobility impaired as defined on Form 861.  Disabled Parking Application

What is the cost for a disability parking permits?

There is no charge for a permit.

How many permits may be issued to an applicant?

Two

How long is a permit valid?

Permanent is valid for 5 years
Temporary is valid for up to 6 months

Are out-of-state permits honored in Alaska?

Yes

Does a person with a disability parking permit have to put money in the parking meter?

Yes

If a vehicle displays disability plates is a permit necessary?

No
